Story & Plot:
Alice in Borderland Season 1 is a thrilling Japanese survival drama that mixes mystery, action, friendship, and psychological tension. The story follows Ryohei Arisu, a young man who feels lost in his ordinary life and struggles to find a direction for his future.
One night, Arisu is hanging out in Tokyo with his two best friends, Chota and Karube. After causing trouble in the city, the three friends hide from the police. When they eventually come out, they discover something impossible. Tokyo has suddenly become empty.
At first, they think everyone has disappeared. But their confusion quickly turns to fear when they are forced into a strange game. The players are given playing cards that represent different types of games, and winning is a matter of life and death. Each game tests a different skill, including intelligence, teamwork, courage, and trust.
Arisu soon realizes that the Borderland is not a place where people can wait for help. Every player has a limited amount of time on their Visa. To survive, they must participate in games and earn additional days. If their Visa expires, they die.
The first games are terrifying, but Arisu’s intelligence helps him understand the rules and find ways to survive. However, survival comes with a heavy price. During one of the early games, Arisu is forced to watch his friends make sacrifices so that he can live. Their deaths leave him devastated and filled with guilt.
Later, Arisu meets Usagi, a strong and independent young woman who has learned to survive on her own. Unlike Arisu, Usagi is physically capable and experienced at moving through dangerous situations. Although they have very different personalities, they gradually develop trust and become partners.
Together, Arisu and Usagi continue searching for answers. They meet other survivors and learn that the Borderland contains many different games, each connected to one of the four suits of playing cards. Clubs focus on teamwork, Diamonds test intelligence, Spades involve physical strength, and Hearts are often the most emotionally painful because they test trust and relationships.
As Arisu becomes more experienced, he begins to understand that the games are more than random challenges. There appears to be a larger mystery behind the Borderland, and some players are searching for the people responsible for creating the games.
One of the most memorable parts of Season 1 is the Beach, a large community where many survivors gather. The group believes that collecting all the playing cards will eventually allow them to escape the Borderland. However, life at the Beach is far from peaceful. Power struggles, secrets, and betrayal begin to create new dangers.
Arisu eventually becomes involved in one of the most brutal games, where the players must figure out who among them is secretly responsible for the deaths of others. The game forces everyone to question the people they trust and shows just how cruel the Borderland can be.
By the end of Season 1, Arisu and Usagi survive, but they still do not have the answers they are looking for. Instead, they discover that the games are continuing and that someone appears to be controlling events from behind the scenes.

Tao Tsuchiya:
Tao Tsuchiya (Tsuchiya Tao; born February 3, 1995) is a Japanese actress. She is best known for her memorable role of Makimachi Misao in the movie series Rurouni Kenshin, as Mai Nakahara in The 8-Year Engagement, Koharu in The Cinderella Addiction, and most recently as Yuzuha Usagi in Netflix‘s Alice in Borderland. Her older sister, Honoka, works as a model, while her younger brother, Shimba Tsuchiya, is also an actor.
Yuzuha Usagi (played by Tao Tsuchiya):
Usagi is a quick thinker. She trusts her abilities and does not try to help strangers if she knows she cannot. She deeply cares about those close to her and is very protective. She prefers working alone, explaining that becoming attached to others makes survival more difficult. This changes when she meets Arisu. She also doesn’t want Arisu to say he was the only one who saved everyone during the Five of Spades game.
Nijirō Murakami:
Nijirō Murakami (村上 虹郎, Murakami Nijirō; born March 17, 1997) is a Japanese actor and voice actor. He is best-known for his role as Kaito in the 2014 romance film Still the Water, which was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Murakami’s role in Last of the Wolves (2021) received critical acclaim and earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize. He also gained international recognition for his role as Shuntaro Chishiya in the Netflix survival series Alice in Borderland.
Shuntaro Chishiya (played by Nijirō Murakami):
Chishiya is highly intelligent, with strong manipulative and analytical skills. He remains calm and unfazed in most situations and is usually seen grinning or sneering, even during intense, horrific, and emotionally damaging events. Many of his phrases end with the note sign (♪), indicating a playful or sarcastic tone. While his skills of observation, deduction, and manipulation make him a potentially strong Hearts player, he claims not to be suited for Hearts.[1] He prefers intellectual challenges and searches for strong opponents to relieve his boredom, so his first choice is usually Diamonds games.

Aya Asahina (朝比奈 彩, Asahina Aya; born 6 October 1993) is a Japanese model, actress, and YouTuber.
Kuina (played by Aya Asahina):
Kuina is a friendly and easy-going person who prefers to talk to people casually and does not walk away from a fight. She gets along with most people around her, including Chishiya. Throughout the series, she is shown to care about others and is willing to stand up for those she believes are doing the right thing. Her past reveals that she is fiercely independent and has a strong desire to survive, especially because of her attachment to her sick mother.
